Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - How to vanquish fear of public speaking
This booklet is great writing on an equally great topic. The quotes about the experiences of ordinary people like you are soothing; it is nice to know we are not alone. Better still the book explains simple things one can do to face and perhaps even conquer permanently the fear of public speaking. I look forward to putting these lessons to work at the subsequent available opportunity.

The author tells us that public speaking anxiety, even in its worst case scenario called "glass eating philosophy", is manageable with the right tools. The book states concisely the whole process for overcoming the fear of public speaking in one illustration on page 8. The very first step to bringing the fear of public speaking under control is to examine one's actual and/or perceived assumptions about public speaking. Underlying these assumptions is personal inability or the perception of it. The solution is to invest in one's ability, which often leads to "nervous excitement" rather than debilitating fear of speaking. Although there are physiological, behavioral, and psychological bases of fear, nervous excitement permits "active preparation and practice", followed by "successful speaking experience", both of which reinforce a "positive assessment". This all sets in motion the so-called virtuous cycle. With positive assessment as a foundation, the subsequent speaking engagement will not be difficult.

A number of things lower nervous excitement: ability to manage unexpected events, conventional relaxation, active relaxation, visualization, and combinations of all these. A definite don't -do is self-medication, whether of legal or illegal substances.

Once in control of fear, the last set of things to do is (a) to practice, practice, practice; (b) to get a handle on the volume of your voice; (c) to moderate your rate of speech; (d) to make eye contact so as to increase positive assessment by the audience; (e) to make appropriate body movements and gestures; and (f) to be enthusiastic about the topic, and confident in your preparedness to speak about it.

Highly recommended!
