The very first chapter contained in this volume focusses on results derived from the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. The results obtained from the High Resolution Doppler Imager and the WIND Imaging Interferometer provide remarkable new views of the upper atmosphere. The section entitled Variability in the Low Latitude Middle Atmosphere presents information on some important minor neutral species in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere and the effect of dynamics arising out of gravity waves breaking on them.
