Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Eastern spiritual traditions have long maintained that mindfulness meditation can improve well-being. More recently, mindfulness-based treatment approaches have been successfully utilized to treat anxiety, depressive relapse, eating disorders, psychosis, and borderline personality disorder. This book discusses the conceptual foundation, implementation, and evidence base for the four best-researched mindfulness treatments: mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
All chapters were written by researchers with extensive clinical experience. Each chapter includes the conceptual rationale for using a mindfulness-based treatment and a review of the relevant evidence base. A detailed case study illustrates how the intervention is implemented in 'real life,' exploring the clinical and practical issues that may arise and how they can be managed. This book will be of use to clinicians and researchers interested in understanding and implementing mindfulness based treatments.

* Comprehensive introduction to the best-researched mindfulness-based treatments
* Covers wide range of problems & disorders (anxiety, depression, eating, psychosis, personality disorders, stress, pain, relationship problems, etc)
* Discusses a wide range of populations (children, adolescents, older adults, couples)
* Includes wide range of settings (outpatient, inpatient, medical, mental health, workplace)
* Clinically rich, illustrative case study in every chapter
* International perspectives represented (authors from US, Canada, Britain, Sweden)

User popularity level: out of 5 stars

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Peek into the Inner Workings of Mindfulness Workshops and Programs
Since I work in the field of mindfulness and meditation research, this book proved to be(pardon the expression) enlightening. Anyone who wants to teach a class or a workshop that uses any form of self-reflective strategy will find something useful here, and I highly recommend it to psychotherapists since mindfulness-based therapies are proving to be one of the most effective ways to treat serious emotional problems. I was particularly impressed by the ways that mindfulness has been successfully integrated into weight loss and eating disorder programs. Another fascinating chapter describes how meditation and mindfulness can be used to enhance relationships between partners. A real gem: expensive but well worth the price.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - top notch collection
this book edited by a leader in developing measures of mindfulness, brings together various leaders in applied mindfulness. the chapters are well written and present the empirical evidence for a particular intervention. even better, rich case material shows the actual clinical application. a very helpful book for both clinicians and researchers.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Post-grad psychology student's review
Mindfulness-Based Treatment Approaches: Clinician's Guide to Evidence Base and Applications (Practical Resources for the Mental Health Professional)
Provides a clear description of a variety of Mindfulness-based treatments. Central concepts and procedural steps are clarified and contrasted enabling the reader to discriminate easily between approaches and to select the most appropriate for their client group. Clear case examples demonstrate how to apply different methods. Highly recommended for post-grad psychology students.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Working in Stress? Good Book for your Library
I am a wellness coach at a cancer center and stress is one of our biggest challenges. Last year I bought this book in hopes that it would serve as a resource for me and staff around "mindfullness training" and stress reduction techniques.

It has been helpful for it has not only helped build my knowledge and understanding around mindfullness training, but it also has given me a understanding of the empirical evidence. Even though I am not a therapists the case studies have been very helpful in building my understanding of how mindfullness training works in real world situations.

This book has accompanied me on several plane trips when I usually take a good mystery, but instead have been deep inside mindfullness concepts I did not what to give up. It's packed full of information - but even for a wellness coach a must if you are working on stress in the worksite.
