My five-year-old grandson just had a tonsillectomy. This book was very informative and reassuring. He knew what to expect and was not surprised or shocked at anything. We did have the "Good-Bye Tonsils! party, which made him feel very special. I strongly recommend this book for preparation for youngsters' surgery. Very helpful.

This story is from a child's point of view and so it was easily understandable to our 6yr old. It explained what tonsils are and why they might need to come out. While our daughter's tonsils came out because they were far too big & she snored, it was easy for us to add in why she was getting them out. It's honest with out being scary. We, too, did the tonsil party which eased any stress she might have been feeling. The things that happened very closely paralleled our experience right down to the I.V. and the yucky pain medicine. The drawings are very good, even showing what the surgeon would look like with his mask on. We had her surgery done at Phila. CHOP & they even liked the book (they made a copy of the cover page so they could look it up! I, of course, am quite proud of myself!). This came highly recommended as you can read other comments & I agree; this was the perfect book to get ready for surgery. We read it a handful of times & talked about it; we even brought it to school to share with other kids. Highly recommened.

This book is great!!!!! My son 5 year old son was very worried about the whole process of getting his tonsils out. This book explains every step before and after and what to expect in the hospital and back at home. After reading it numerous times he felt more comfortable. When he was in the hospital he was even able to tell the nurses what comes subsequent and he didn't even cry when they took him back to the operating room. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a young child who needs to have their tonsils out.

I bought this for my granddaughter who is 3 and she loved it. We started reading it about one week before surgery. We even had the goodbye tonsils party that was in the book...cake, balloons, etc. It made her aware of what was going to happen and all the procedures that were in the book took place the same way at the hospital.

This book helped prepare my child for her tonsilectomy surgery. We did the Goodbye Tonsils cake (a very first for the bakery gal!) and brought the book with us to review during pre-op. Very appropriate for understanding the before and after process.
