Product Description:
A prequel to Michael Crider's successful very first book about fatherhood: a humorous look at the transformation from a ladies' man to his lady's main man
From the moment he sees his future wife across a smoke-filled college keg party, Michael Crider has a strong hunch that his single days are numbered. In between that moment of early understanding and his sweaty presence years later at the altar, however, Crider missteps, stalls, and resists like a true man's man.
Remembering his evolution from swinging single to linked for life, Crider chronicles the highs and lows of relationship progress: from the nauseating dating days of 'No, I love you more!' to his own embarrassing version of 'Meet the Parents'; from plotting his marriage proposal to the wedding and reception itself (a.k.a. 'booze, the bride, and blue balls'). For men under pressure to propose or newly affianced, newlywed or veteran to the husband hustle, Michael Crider's flawed attempts at both grand romantic gestures and small attempts to control his fate will be all too familiar. Refreshingly honest and laugh-out-loud funny, The Slow and Inevitable Crawl Toward Happily Ever After should also appeal to the long-suffering women in their lives who, for better or worse, recognize their men in its pages.

Crider tackles a topic that's been tackled by many others, who have done so to far better effect. (Thurber and White's "Is Sex Necessary?" comes to mind.) This tome (originally titled "The Slow and Inevitable Crawl Toward Happily Ever After") is, alas, not in the same ballpark with Thurber, much less Greene, Erma Bombeck, or lesser comedic lights. This is a so-so rehash of all the usual stuff, with Crider trotting out every cliche you can imagine, from the obsessive girlfriend to the knuckle dragging, beer sucking, clueless male. Every once in awhile he manages to wring a laugh out of this over-exploited topic, but not enough for my taste. You want funny relationship stuff? Read Dorothy Parker...read Cynthia Heimel...read Nora Ephron...hell, read Thurber! But don't read this.

This book is absolutely hysterical. I bought it for my brother, who read it so quickly that I decided it must be good (he never reads anything). It is a hilarious look into the honest mind of a man who has been there and done that in the dating, engagement and marriage world. I would not ony recommend this book for any single or engaged man out there, but for the women who love them. Reading this book is like having a secret, mind-reading power of the males species, making it worth every cent. And if you're married, check out his other book, "The Guy's Guide to Pregnancy, Childbirth and the First Year of Fatherhood"--another fabulously entertaining and enlightening read!

What a refreshingly funny book! I bought this for my fiancee and I ended up reading it myself. Truly honest, funny and insightful. I know when we get pregnant I'll have to buy the other book!
