Product Description:
To read excerpts of 'Are your eyes listening?' and 'Do-si-Do with Autism,' or to order copies, visit SarahStup.com. 'I am pleased to be typing away,' Stup writes in her book's introduction. 'Typing away loneliness, typing away silence, using paper to hug you and slap you and join you. Click, click, clicking keys are my heartbeat. Listen with your eyes.' 'Are your eyes listening?' is a unique collection of some of Sarah's (a young writer with autism) most heart-warming and heart-wrenching poems, reflections and essays. Through her vivid imagery, she takes readers inside 'the beast' [autism], but also reveals the special gifts it imparts. The book is about more than autism, however; rather, it is a book about life. From family to oceans, coffee to snowflakes, writing to love--she shares her insights about each, and in doing so, puts herself in the company of other great young writers.

As a mom new to autism with my 2 1/2 year old daughter recently diagnosed, I felt both afraid and excited to read Sarah's book. Afraid of seeing what might be inside my own daughter to be discovered more as she grows older. I never dreamed I'd be a mother of a child with autism, which I realize I knew so little about 5 months ago before her diagnosis. I have so much to learn and Sarah's beautiful writings, which were painful to read sometimes (to hear how hard things can be), also gave me some amazing insight into a world that is scarey and new to me. Sarah gave me hope that life can be okay. That there's nothing or nobody to fear. Sarah inspired me to find out who my daughter really is, and help bring her voice out too, whether she's verbal or not. I loved "Birth Mom" and hope I can be as supportive in my daughter's life. I also loved "Mmmmmm! Marvelous! M&M's!" made me smile. You are a beautiful person, Sarah. Thank you for reaching out to a not always so welcoming world. I pray you feel God's pleasure as you type.
