Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Petite yet powerful book!
"Petite yet powerful" describes both this book and its author. "Looking Up When Life is Looking Down" is a small, beautifully illustrated gift book based on Beth Moore's other book "Get Out of That Pit". The book lays out three ways to know you're in a pit, three ways into the pit and three ways out of the pit.

A "pit" is described as an early grave Satan digs for you hoping he can bury you alive. Pit-dwelling is likened to living in a cramped putrid old RV. The RV is cluttered with all of our belongings. After living in it for so long, we begin to smell just like it. We drive it everywhere, so everywhere we go is miserable and stinky! What if you were given the opportunity to get out of the RV and move into a mansion? Would you take that opportunity or stay somewhere vile yet familiar?

There are three ways to know you are in a pit. First, you feel stuck. You feel that this is where you will always live. Second, you can't stand up to assaults, trials or temptations. You feel as if your feet are surrounded by mud and mire. Third, you've lost your vision. What used to move you no longer does.

There are three ways to get into a pit. First, you can be thrown in. This is the most tragic way in because you are a pit-dweller through no fault of your own. This is a pit of innocence similar to the story of Joseph, who was literally thrown into a pit (Genesis 37). The second way in is to slip into a pit. We put ourselves in, but we didn't intend to. This particular pit it so painful because once inside, the enemy will gladly dole out guilt and remind us that "you did this to yourself". The third way in is to jump in. When we jump in, we are fully aware that we are doing something wrong, foolish or sinful, but we don't care. It looks so good. It feels so good. So we jump.

Although Satan digs the pit he cannot make you stay. Unfortunately God will not make you leave. The choice is entirely yours.

There are three ways out, all involve the mouth and are possible by the grace of God. Cry out, confess and consent. First, cry out to God. Be honest with Him. He can handle what you have to say. Second, confess. Confession goes beyond the obvious (admitting sin) to confessing to God that you agree that He is who He says He is and telling Him that you need Him and love Him. Honestly tell Him out loud what is on your mind. Third, consent. Beth Moore writes, "Consent is the most beautiful part of the process of getting out of a pit. There is no ambiguity about this. God wants you out of that pit. All you have to do is consent".
