Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Learning to Slow Down and Pay Attention
I found this book very helpful for me and my children. My children enjoyed listening to me read it to them. It seemed to validate a lot of their feelings. It also put in words what was difficult for me to explain. It also gave helpful tips which are great tools for life.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Learning to Slow Down and Pay Attention:A Book for Kids about ADHD
Excellent book! I purchased this book for my 8 yr old daughter and we read the book together. This generated great discussions and extended learning about the disorder and I was able to understand more about what my daughter feels each day.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great for kids and parents
This is the third copy of this book that I've purchased -- I'm a school counselor, and I can't keep my copy in my office! This book is a great intro to ADHD for kids and parents and anyone else who works with kids. It's readable, practical and a great resource!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Not just for ADHD - for ANY kid with focusing and organizational issues
My 10 yo has mild autism, and he has major organizational and focusing issues. This book explains in very clear terms the challenges that face some kids, and steps that can be taken to minimize those challenges.

I love the checklist in part 1, because it highlighted some things even for me that I didn't realize my son needed help with. It helped give my son the language to discuss exactly why he dislikes school so much, rather than just the generic, "I hate school, too much work, too much homework, I hate it!" It was also a revelation to him that OTHER kids have these same issues. Seeing a book targeted so specifically to kids with problems my son has, really hammered home that he is not alone.

The subsequent section of the book is "Things Other People Can Do to Help Me," and this was a pretty weak section of the book, very basic info about the role physicians/medication, counselors, and therapists might have in helping kids with ADHD. I suppose this section's generality makes sense because the book is targeted towards kids.

Part 3 is the meat of the book, with specific strategies kids can use to help themselves get organized and learn to focus. It's all stuff that anyone who reads organizational books already knows (colour code, checklists, etc...), but simplified and applied specifically to issues children have. This section also deals with some of the emotional issues some kids have, such as, "Things to Do If I Feel Fidgety", "Learning to Control My Anger", "Learning to Ask for Help", "Problem Solving", etc...

All in all, I highly, highly recommend this book. Parents will probably need to help kids establish some of these routines/procedures, and certainly parents can be helpful in reminding kids of the strategies they are supposed to try to use when they get frustrated/angry.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome Book
This is an incredible book for children to better understand ADHD and the issues that go along with it, such as making friends, and controling their impulses. I read this with my 8 year old son who has been recently diagnosed with ADHD and it was so helpful to me and him. The checklist that they complete in the book really opened my eyes to the issues that my son is dealing with at school everyday. Also the text is written simply enough that my son reads it on his own to remind him of the tips that it offers. Also the helpful hints on organization, anger managemnt, impulse control are already showing an amazing effect on my son. I highly recommend that you read this book and try the tips inside!
