Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Hilarious and refreshingly honest, this chronicle of a year-long journey of self-exploration and self-help offers solace and solidarity to the myriad sufferers of clinical depression and anxiety disorders. A far cry from the typical self-help manual, this wry and subversive account is leavened with a healthy dose of humble pie and a keen sense of the absurd. As the author navigates a series of self-help classes designed to raise her self-esteem, make her more assertive, help her find a man, lose weight, channel her creativity, and get her 'energy centers' realigned, the reader will be moved and inspired by her pluck. Tackling important issues like familial dysfunction, letting go of blame and resentment, and battling negative thinking, this memoir shows it's possible to recover one's self worth without losing one's sense of humor.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Down But Not Out!
I found Hide and Seek to be an honest, humorous and sometimes heart wrenching account of the author's battle with depression. Ms. Aron has found a way to impart to us, all the struggles of a "depressive" who is more interested in self help than in wallowing in self pity. Her narrative style is both refreshing and clever and makes for easy reading.

Although this book tells of many "down" days that the author has experienced, it leaves us with the uplifting message that tenacity, persistence, and the ability to laugh at oneself, ultimately leads to self realization and contentment.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Great treatment for depression!
Picked up this book with some trepidation. Would the author really deliver on a humorous account of clinical depression & neurosis? Would she get all maudlin and sentimental at some point? Would I be expected to, at the end of the book, get out the hankees and be moved by some huge transformation? Yes. No. No. No. For people tired of simplistic, silly self help advice masquerading as wisdom and insight, Wendy skewers them all and kept me laughing from almost beginning to end. What does she learn: There are lots of people out there who are not happy all the time. There are lots of people out there trying to make a buck off this. Dark biting humour may be the best treatment there is. This kind of laughter is my best medicine. Thank you Dr. Wendy!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Guilty Pleasures
When I very first started reading Hide & Seek, I felt guilty every time I laughed at poor Wendy, whose struggle to deal with depression and low self-esteem is the subject of this delightfully different memoir. After all, what kind of person chuckles at a person working up the courage to enroll in a weight-loss program? Then I realized I had to do what Wendy did, which is to just let go and enjoy myself, addictions, conflicts, complexes and all.

Humor, it turns out, is a great cure for what ails you, and Wendy Aron's journey through the self-help forest of seminars, classes, therapy, speed dating, creativity retreats, smoking cures, and various new-age, new-nonsense hoo-haw has plenty of it. The journey is an inspirational one, too, as well as entertaining, and there's a great section on sources for help at the end.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Living Life And Then Some
Hide and Seek is a suprisingly funny, witty account of how one person prevails over her lifelong battle with depression.

We get a look into the world of Wendy Aron and get to follow her on her journey to be happy, through glimpses of her daily life and through a series of selfhelp and improvement classes which she uses to deal with low self-esteem.

She tackles an often sensitive subject with thoughtful insights but her observations with regard to herself and those she encounters are often humorous and her experiences are those anyone can relate to.

I now have one copy of her book for me and have decided to buy a second to loan out to friends.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Good story, just wish the book was better edited.
As a sufferer of anxiety and depression my entire life, I was drawn to this book while roaming through the local library. I must say that the author nailed it in certain places and I came away with a better understanding of my condition. I appreciate her efforts to bring this condition to light and the daily challenges we go through. I will recommend this book to my psychiatrist during my subsequent visit. Thank you Ms Aron!

That being said, was this book self published? Being somewhat of a frustrated writer myself, I was irked to read several grammar errors, misplaced sentences, and meanderings that should have been worked through by a good editor. The ending left me somewhat frustrated as it appears that Ms. Aron did find a man she felt she could let down her guard and engage with and has since settled down to happy matrimony. This was never addressed in the book. I think I would have liked to see less of the new age encounters that we depressives...(a word I did not know until I read Ms. Aron's book!)...find ourselves in and more of the daily challenges Ms. Aron appears to have overcome.

Overall an insightful (and comedic) book for those of us with anxiety and depression. Thanks again Ms. Aron for sharing your story!
