Book was not instructional at all - better to learn from a suture company or a surgeon that will just take the time to show you the way to throw knots etc. There are way better books out there on the market.

This book covers suturing, tying knots, and using the needle driver. There are no photos but high quality line drawings in grey and white which illustrate the points. The granny knot, square knot, surgeons double loop knot, and Miller's knots are covered with single hand, both hand, and instrument ties. There is quite a bit of text as captions with the diagrams. I think this is one of the very best books on surgical techniques. The needle driver is very well covered showing things like vertical and horizontal mattress suturing. It is about 44 pages long. Good buy for the money.

Ideal for those who need to be familiar with suturing techniques and are not doctors (like nurse practioners and ocean going mates and captains).

I was surprised to find that the book was only 40 pages long. The illustrations are good and the information is presented in a concise and efficient manner. The book covers roughly 8 types of knots and 9 different suturing methods. So obviously it is ideal for someone looking to get a quick hands-on start on basic suturing.[update 4-5-07] I think I may have underestimated this book. It is actually a nice and concise primer that I have referenced again and again. It is small enough to fit in a white coat or lab jacket pocket. Here is a summarized Table of Contents: One and two-handed square knot, Instrument tie square knot, Miller's and Modified Miller's knot; Suture materials, needles, methods, and patterns(appositional, tension, and inverting); Removing sutures and Basic Sterile Technique.
