Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:

This is a brief book that explores eight, worthwhile, research-based classroom innovations that foster student-centered classroom environments worth implementing into today's school settings. Each of the eight innovations—essential questions, curriculum integration, standards-based curriculum and assessment design, authentic assessment, scoring rubrics, portfolios reflection, and action research— is justified through detailed explanation, ways to implement it into the classroom, and how to adapt the strategy to meet the needs of diverse classroom environments. Readers will find balanced examples from every grade level, in addition to curriculum design modules, and easy-to-use templates for applying the innovations and strategies into the classroom immediately. For educators, instructors, counselors, and academic evaluators.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - An Invaluable Resource for Reflective Practitioners
As teachers we are bombarded with the latest research, the newest fad, and unending staff development. More often than not, the vitally important missing piece to all of them is the answer to the question "How can I use this in my classroom?" This book takes the best of the latest innovations and shows the reader how to transform it into practice.

If you are looking for a quick-fix, however, this is not the book for you. The author tells the reader up-front that redesigning the curriculum for a class will take 5-7 years, recognizing that most teachers don't have extended blocks of time other than the summer to work on curriculum. However, the ideas are presented in such a way that for most teachers the work will be a matter of fine-tuning, rather than building from scratch. (I suspect that most teachers are already doing some of the things described in the book anyway.)

The ideas in this book will take your teaching to a new level.
