Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! is the funny, serious, and compelling new novel by Fannie Flagg, author of the beloved Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (and prize-winning co-writer of the classic movie).

Once again, Flagg's humour and respect and affection for her characters shine forth. Many inhabit small-town or suburban America. But this time, her heroine is urban: a brainy, beautiful, and ambitious rising star of 1970s television. Dena Nordstrom, pride of the network, is a woman whose future is full of promise, her present rich with complications, and her past marked by mystery.

Amazon.com Review:
Fans of Fannie Flagg's Southern-fried yarns will enjoy her folksy reading of her third novel--the story of New York TV anchorwoman Dena Nordstrom, who must take her fast-paced life down a few notches, face her mysterious past, and shake hands with her small-town heritage in order to find happiness. Listening to Flagg's storytelling on this abridged rendition, one might as well be sitting across a kitchen table from her as she pours two cups of coffee and serves up slices of apple pie along with the latest neighborhood gossip. Flagg, author of the bestselling book Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, received a Grammy Award nomination for her narration on the audio version of that book. Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!
I loved it! This was my second Fannie Flagg book and she out did herself on this one! What a wonderfully written story of a woman who is in search of a mysterious void in her life. Through twists of fate and her own curiosity she discovers herself and finds she is not half bad at all! As a southerner, I can hear the characters speak as I read their words and felt a deep connection to each of them. The story comes full circle with just the right amount of twists to keep you guessing, but never able to foresee the end until you get there. This is a must read for everyone!

5 stars all the way!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Book!
I wasn't all that sure I was going to like this book as I started reading but in that Fannie Flagg way she got me hooked before I was even out of the preface with colorful characters in oddball existences that seem somehow quite normal.
I was a big fan of Fried Green Tomatoes and much like that book she doesn't disappoint with intrigue and surprises. You find yourself engulfed with these amazing characters that make you wish you were hanging around with them whether they're in New York City or Elmwood Springs, Missouri or Selma, Alabama.
She has an amazing way of keeping your interest in a book and it's characters even as she hops from place to place and year to year with her telling of the story. The quirky characters that seem to be standard in a Flagg book are well welcomed once again too.
Get this book and enjoy it. It's Fannie Flagg with her wit, her charm and her eye on society as it once was.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Women's lib, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Elmwood Springs, and a family mystery
We return to the 70s with Norma, Macky, and Aunt Elner. Mostly, though, we watch their relative, Dena Nordstrom, struggle with her emotional problems. Dena is in denial. An abandoned teenager becomes a sorority girl becomes a prominent female news anchor. Dena is convinced she's okay, although she has no friends and plenty of plastic relationships. She defines herself by her career. And then, she become deathly ill. Dena must reevaluate her life.

I loved the flashbacks to mid-twentieth century Elmwood Springs, as I got to read about my favorite characters. I was also excited every time there was a chapter about Macky, Norma, and Aunt Elner. I actually became frustrated with Dena because she was obviously lonely and screwed up. I wanted her to open up about her problems, not give her doctors a difficult time. See, once again, Fannie Flagg made me care a little too much about these characters. ;)

This book is simply enjoyable. It has a very interesting mystery associated with Dena's abandonment. I was surprised when it was solved, as I had thought she was abandoned for completely different reasons. So, in addition to learning about her abandonment, we also learn about a painful time in western history. I was a little miffed that ALL of Fannie's characters involved in that mystery were all unbiased towards color; it seemed a little too incredulous. The "miffed-ness" nearly vanished once Marguerite had her incident in the hotel.

Flagg was dead-on in Sookie's identity as a Kappa. That cracked me up. I went to a college with a dormant Kappa chapter, but believe me, every alum remembers the prestige of being a Kappa.

I was happy with the resolution. Dena's happy and healthy. My three favorite characters are doing well. And, Elmwood Springs has a few new residents. Some might find Dena's solution to loneliness cliched, but I was actually satisfied. We don't want her sleeping with every superficial jerk forever!

Read this book for an enjoyable mystery mixed with southern culture.... and KAPPA KONFIDENCE! ;)

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - On Par with "Fried Green Tomatoes"
Undoubtedly, Fannie Flagg's most famous work will be Fried Green Tomatoes, not to put Ms. Flagg in her grave yet, but I doubt she will write another novel that will capitivate the hearts and minds of her readers quite like Fried Green Tomatoes did. That being said, "Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!" comes dangerously close to doing so. It has mystery, romance, and of course, it is full of the dynamic and hysterical characters Flagg is known for.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Dena finds herself
What can I say ---it is a book by Fannie Flagg. It is southern hospitality served in a warm and witty way. I did not like the way it switched from present years to the past as it made it hard to follow at times. Not my most favorite of Flaggs but definately worth your time.
