Product Description:
'Mom, where do babies come from?' Many parents live in fear of the day their child asks that question—which inevitably happens, often as early as the preschool years. Here is a picture book designed especially for young children who are becoming sexually aware but aren’t ready to learn about sexual intercourse. Written with warmth and honesty, Amazing You! presents clear and age-appropriate information about reproduction, birth, and the difference between girls’ and boys’ bodies. Lynne Cravath’s whimsical illustrations enliven the text, making this a book that parents will gladly share with their young ones.

When I ordered this book it was mainly for my 3 yr old grand-daughter.... the book was very informative.... BUT - it was very graphic for a 3 yr old and went into ALOT of detail on reproduction etc... the book said it was for pre-schoolers...
I think it was more appropriate for my 8 to 10 yr old grandchildren... and would suggest not shared while with mixed genders....

I got this for my 3.5 year old who is very interested in not only his private parts but others. I thought that this would ease the the obsession he was having by getting straight to the point, which this book does. He could relate to the drawings of the changes in body parts from birth to adulthood, which was assuring to him after hearing me and his father tell him the same thing. I do think that the part of how you make a baby with photos of an egg, sperm, and vagina was a little much for his age, but for older kids it could make sense. Over all I am happy I got this book and so is my child.

I was very excited to receive this book after having read a glowing review in my local newspaper. The details seem to be just right for 4-8 year olds, the published target audience. The author deals with most of the body differences between the genders, as well as changes that each can expect while growing up [though oddly omitting any mention of breast changes or nursing a baby]. While intercourse is not noted as the means for fertilizing the egg to make a baby, she does go into appropriate detail about female and male reproductive organs. My only reservation for sharing this with my 5 and 4 year old is one page that talks about 'touching yourself.' While I am not so naive to think this is not going to happen, it seems that this topic might better suit 8-12 year olds than younger children. While the author handles the issue even without mentioning the word 'masturbation,' my personal opinion is that my own children don't even need to have the concept introduced to them yet! We have decided to keep this book and wait to share it until they seem more self-aware and are asking questions, which at this point, they are not.
Overall, though, great book!

I bought this book to help explain "private parts" to my 5 year old son. We read the book together and felt the need to skip a few pages. While the book is very knowledgeable, my opinion was that it had a bit more information than I thought a 5 year old needed. I thought the pictures were very helpful and proper for a young child's book. I recommend this book, I'm sure I will need it in years to come.

While this book is very good in its discusion on sexuality, my one problem is that the pictures are quite artsy. This will be interesting for children, but there is the good possibility that they will be confused as to what the body parts actually look like. With supplemental pictures and and adult ready to answer questions, this is a good book to help teach children.
