Winner of the prestigious EVVY Merit Award in the literary competition of the Colorado Independent Publishing houses Association (March 2007). Judges commented "beautifully designed, immediately intriguing...it is very well done." By this accolade alone, Fly Me to the Moon merits a five-star rating.
The new paradigm of a novel that both entertains and educates the reader fills a void in the literary industry. Any individual who needs or desires a deeper understanding of mental illness and its ramifications should consider Fly Me to the Moon to be a "must-read." The story is so amazingly realistic that many readers strongly identify, yet the informative value of the book warranted its approval as the very first novel to be awarded continuing medical education status.
Since the modern era of treatment for Bipolar Disorder began in the 1970's, Eileen, the story's protagonist, also starts her story at that time. Eventually, a sequel will chronicle the remainder of Eileen's phenomenal bipolar journey. My subsequent release (due early 2009) will focus on addiction.

This book is WONDERFUL! I am a Home Helath Care Psych RN and I teach pts. about their illness , monitor med compliance, pt. behavior, family responses, etc.. It is a priviledge to be invited into their homes. But now, with this book, I have a new teaching tool that these pts. will be able to relate too. It's not just "signs and symptons and facts". This book actually relates and integrates real behaviors and facts with a fictional character. It is a book that lets the pts know that "they are not alone".It gives great insight and hope.I highly recommend this book to all in the mental health profession and to pts. and their families with Bipolar Diagnosis.

Sorry, folks, but this book is absolutely AWFUL! Why on earth did the author set it in the 70's, when the diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder was barely getting started and lithium was the only treatment option?
In real life, nobody except "Eileen" gets hospitalized, diagnosed and stabilized on treatment in one month. Most of us do not do so without our employers knowing about it. (Hello, insurance?) Most of us have to scramble to PAY for what we bought on a manic spending spree. I could go on. The writing is terrible, the plot hokey, and the reader should pass on this one.

okay i guess if you HAD to read a psych book for educational purposes, this would be the way to go. otherwise, this book is BO-RING. i am in the mental health field so perhaps i am a little jaded but the character is not developed enough for me to even give a flying burrito about her. in fact, she is so annoying and perfect, that i was happy to see her fail and wasn't "rooting" for her at all. i don't think that's a good sign. i didn't care enough about her to even finish the book, even when i was desparate for something to read. this book is set in the '70's by the way and the whole story about "Moon City" isn't exciting because, as we know, we still aren't living in "Moon Cities" in 2007. unless you have to read it, don't.

I was truely taken with this book. I being bipolar myself, identified with all the moods of Elaine. The author described the seductive feeling of the mania with great accuracy. The eventual fall to the darkness of depression is well explained. I have read so many manuals about this subject and although they are helpful to me, for a loved one or a friend of a bipolar, manuals can be boring. This told in the form of an adventuresome story will heighten the understanding of bipolar disorder. Well done. Thank you Dr. Logue writing this book. It undoubtedly will educate and bring awareness to this misunderstood disorder.
