I Ordered this book, but when it arrived it was titled "When My Anxiety Gets Too Big". I'm unsure if they have just retitled the book, or the wrong book was shipped in error. I kept the Anxiety book as I DO deal with anxiety episodes in my child and other children I care for, but I have not yet pursued another order for the Austim book.

I bought this book so that my 9 year old son could read it. He does not have autism but I do. I want him to be able to try to understand what it was like for me when I was a little girl. My son and I both enjoyed reading this book. This book "When My Autism Gets Too Big!" gave my son just enough information to start learning more about what it is like to have autism. I want him to understand everything there is to know about autism that way there he will know more about me and also about others that he may come in contact with that have autism.

I and my son loved this book. It helped us to get a hold on anger and stress. While some reviewers did not like the emotions being referred to as my autism, I found the book,an excellent tool to use and inserted other descriptive words like anger into the text. This is a springboard for making sense of feelings that are so hard to put words to. The scale is easy and my son likes it.Most importantly this child friendly book empowers my son and encourages conversation about a difficult subject. I also strongly believe in empowering our children with self-calming techniques to manage stress and anger.
We have also had tremendous sucess with the Indigo Dreams Series of stress management CDs for children. Kari Buron actually mentions a breathing relaxation book by the Indigo Dreams author in her introduction. Learning ways to manage stress and anger is helping my child. Thank you for this helpful book.

I didn't like how the author has chosen to label the character's anxiety as his "autism". This book conveys the message that his autism is the label of his bad feelings or his feelings that are out of control. I wish the author had chosen a different word to describe the character's feelings, such as anger, impatience, or anxiety. Instead, they are labeled as his "autism".
It's an uphill battle to fight against the negative impressions of autism. My message to my kids is that their autism is part of what makes them interesting (and it's true).

This book is definitely one of those that you should be able to go through before buying !
After reading the raving reviews I ordered it and it was a huge disappointment ! This book was nothing like what I was expecting !
First it is more a booklet or a leaflet than a real book, it probably has about 20 pages (I don't know exactly because I sent it back right away).
When you open the book you usually have one page with a cartoon representing the child coping with his autism getting too big (I personally didn't like the drawings) and on the other page just a few lines of text. That's it !!
This book is made for kids, older kids, that can look at it and relate to it ! I thought it was for parents to teach their kids ways of relaxing, it's not ! (I guess the one I needed was the one explaining the 5 points scale...) I am under the impression that this book is useless unless you have the other one and your child is used to the 5 points scale !
I really hope Amazon is going to add the "search inside" option on this book because anyone interested in it should take a pick to make sure it is what they think it is !
